Richard Burn
combines his extensive knowledge of the aviation industry with broad commercial experience. For some 30 years he has been providing legal services in Australian and overseas markets, particularly Asia and the Middle East. This has involved dealing with all levels of government and private industry.

He undertakes all aspects of fleet acquisition and sale, aircraft leasing and finance. He advises airlines seeking to establish services into and out of Australia, and provides general commercial legal advice to clients in the aviation industry. He has been engaged by management teams to provide strategic, corporate and legal advice in the re-structuring of airline management, administration, engineering and operations.

Richard advises on commercial and financing issues faced by aviation entities, ranging from start up to everyday operational matters. He has acted for UAE carrier, Emirates, since the establishment of services to Australia in 1996. And with the collapse of Ansett Australia, Richard has been acting for the administrators of the airline in relation to disposal of the fleet.

Throughout his career Richard has combined his practice in aviation with a significant practice in the energy/natural resources industry and international trade. Major projects have included airport and energy utility privatisation in Asia and Australia. He has had significant experience in the establishment of business enterprises in Asia and completed an LLM in International Trade Law with a thesis entitled 'Dispute Resolution in the People's Republic of China'.

In the course of his career Richard Burn has travelled extensively worldwide. Whilst working in large global corporations - including within the aerospace sector, and as a partner in major Australian law firms - he has been resident in a number of countries.

For many years Richard has been an active participant and office bearer in the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand, and is presently National President of the Association. He has been highlighted in the last two issues of Euromoney's 'Guide to the World's Leading Aviation Lawyers' and named in the 'High Flyer's' section of the IATA publication 'Aviation Counsel', as one of the world's leading independent legal counsel in the field of aviation law.
